An early-morning call led Menlo Park police to the scene of a home invasion on Sunday in the 1000 block of Windermere Avenue.

An 88-year-old man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries caused by an assault during the invasion, according to a police department press release.

Two suspects kicked open a side door in the garage and ransacked the home around 5:15 a.m. before fleeing, police said.

One suspect, about 5’10” with a hooded sweatshirt pulled over his face, told the victim he had a gun. The victim was knocked unconscious.

Earlier that morning, residents of homes in the 600 block of Central Avenue and the 800 block of Laurel Avenue reported someone tried to kick in their front doors as well. One homeowner described seeing a 5’10” black man, about 20 years old, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with dark shoes.

Investigators think the incidents could be related, according to police spokeswoman Nicole Acker.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Sgt. Tim Brackett or Detective Christine Powell at 330-6300.

  1. Only answer the door through a locked screen door or something that won’t allow entry unless you unlock it. Or use an intercom or something.

  2. this only gets reported because the perpetrator is suspected to be a minority.

stuff like this happens all the time in west menlo but when they are skateboarding white kids, the police just give them a lecture

  3. Yes, sadfsf, young, white skateboarders are constantly invading homes and knocking 88 year old men unconscious.

It’s a totally under reported crime.

I suppose no one would dare enter your home. After all a “ripped” 180 pound woman lives there.

  4. sad:

that’s three comments in a row from you blaming the victim or otherwise trying to make it sound somehow racist. You have shown yourself to be just be another east menlo punk. I don’t care what color you are, white or brown, you’re still a punk.

  5. Yes, this was a terrifying crime & the 2 other attempts equally terrifying. I am so sorry that man was hurt – a horrible thing to do to an elder.

More than ever, makes me happy to have dogs – most people don’t want to tangle w/dogs, so they avoid those houses.

Hey, sad, it doesn’t matter what the race of the person kicking in the door, assaulting someone & ripping them off, or attempting to do that to others – crime is crime & needs to be reported as such. Please don’t attempt to twist things that by themselves, are twisted enough.

  6. sad

The crimes were in West Menlo what are you talking about? Everything is reported go troll on another board. Its realy silly that your trying to stir it up what are u mad at?

  7. And the links you provided do not link to crimes in West Menlo and downtown Menlo.

You’re a fraud and, appropriately, sad. You, your ripped body and supermodel girlfriend need to get a life.

  8. This crime is very disturbing, and I hope the police catch the person who did this!!! People buy homes in Menlo Park parlty because of it’s low crime rate. And for you people who are pissed because it is a minority who committed this crime…STOP YOUR CRYING! It is what it is…Period! We Menlo Park residents DO NOT want rif raff in our neighborhoods! Keep those losers on the other side of the tracks. We don’t want you here ruining our nice quality of life.

  9. your “nice quality of life” is an illusion. There is a lot of crime going on on west and downtown menlo. I was strolling along in sharon heights when this big SUV with white teens drove by, loud rock music blazing, shouted some expletives at me, and threw a bucket of chicken at me. Are these your children? There is also a bunch of internet tax evasion going on every day, and a lot criminal life-threatening behavior such as driving while talking on the cell phone, which ostensibly is viewed by the police as less harmful than “minority crimes” because its the sons and daughters of affluent constituents who do this. Hit and run with property damage happens all the time in downtown menlo, and there were 3 vehicle burglary incidents yesterday in broad daylight near downtown menlo! since when was downtown menlo safe?!??!?!

  10. I have been in Belle Haven quite a while now and the last thing we need to do is act like our crime problems are the same all over the city. We have much higher crime rates and much higher numbers of minorities and a much lower income level. Anyone trying to say this is a race issue is missing the point. This is an issue with income, parenting and schools.

    Get your head right.
