A woman and three young children were among those slightly injured in a car accident near Atherton this morning, a California Highway Patrol official said.

A 1998 tan Chevy pick-up collided with a parked silver Dodge pick-up around 8 a.m. near First and Williams avenues in North Fair Oaks, according to the CHP.

The preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the Chevrolet lost control, drifting towards the right and running into the Dodge before overturning, the CHP said.

Officer Art Montiel said the driver, a 25-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old passenger were treated for lacerations to their arms. Along with the woman’s 1-year-old, 5-year-old and 6-year-old children, everyone was transported to the hospital as a precaution, he said.

All four minors were believed to have been riding without seat belts or car seats. Charges may be filed against the woman for driving without a license, misdemeanor child endangerment and allowing minors to ride unrestrained, according to the CHP.

Witnesses to the collision may contact the CHP at 207-0315.

  1. Having been a resident of Atherton since 1955, I see a clear disconnect these days between the
criminal” and the “victim”. I watch the evening news, read the daily papers, and I am so disheartened by the lack of conviction rate of those at fault in this tragedies. The police do a good job of arresting and charging, then the liberal judges give these clowns
“probation” and other such nonsense. I am SICK of it but do not know what to do!!! This perpetrator had NO LICENSE, NO SEAT BELTS, and children in their car. HELLO????
What the hell is wrong with us? No charges, no confiscating the auto, no child protective custody for the children of this idiot that had no seat belts for their children? I am furious but helpless.!!!

  2. I drove by this accident shortly after it occurred. I was told that neither driver was licensed or insured.

    You can’t legislate personal responsibility.

  3. Our hands are tied. Too many like this out there that know they will never be prosecuted. It is a no-win situation and will only get worse.
