A Palo Alto man was shot and seriously injured Sunday afternoon while driving on University Avenue, according to police.

The shooting was picked up by ShotSpotter activation in the area of University Avenue and Kavanaugh Street shortly before 2 p.m., according to Detective Rod Tuason.

Police arriving at the scene were directed to University Avenue and Crescent Street in Palo Alto, where they found the victim, a 26-year-old Palo Alto man, and his vehicle.

The victim had a single, life-threatening gunshot wound, and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable but critical condition, Tuason said.

Investigators believe the victim and a friend were driving on University Avenue when a gunman began shooting at the moving vehicle, Tuason said.

The suspect fled and has not been located.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with witnessed the incident or has any information should call East Palo Alto police at 650-321-1112.

  1. mustve been a gang. i mean really? i know theres an ikea there but this is why best buy shut down. its too dangerous and a person in the street walking would get shot for wearing nike and their shoes get stolen or someone get shot for wearing red or blue just because they have nothing else to wear.

someday they will have so many colors of gangs, when we wear grey or white we might get shot.’

    messed up city

    ghetto freaks

  2. It says the shot spotter at Kavanaugh Dr detected the shot … my guess is the victim drove a few more blocks to Palo Alto. If the guy was casually driving down University, wouldn’t you expect him to try to get out of there as soon as he could? Crescent Drive in Palo Alto and Kavanaugh in EPA might as well be on different planets.

  3. Crescent Park Neighbor – the man was found in PA & is from PA – but was shot in EPA. Does that now make sense? Maybe he was heading home for help, or toward Stanford Hospital.
