The fourth drive-by shooting in Menlo Park in three weeks may be gang-related, according to investigators.

Bullets struck a 15-year-old girl inside her home in the 1300 block of Madera Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, wounding her hand, Menlo Park police said. She was treated at a local hospital for the non-life-threatening injury.

Witnesses described a four-door light sedan being driving west on Madera Avenue and heading toward Ivy Drive after occupants fired multiple shots at the house and two vehicles. At least two suspects fired a shotgun and possibly a handgun, according to police.

No further information has been released yet.

Arrests were made nearly two weeks ago in connection to drive-by shootings on Nov. 23 on Willow Road, on Nov. 24 on Hamilton Avenue, and on Nov. 29 on Madera Avenue.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call Menlo Park police at 330-6300 or leave an anonymous tip at 330-6395.

  1. What is the MPPD presence in Bell Haven compared to other residential areas of the city?
Bell haven has a population of about 5,000 or 15% of the Menlo Park population, but with a density 2 1/2 times the Menlo Park city average.
There are only four vehicular exits from Bell Haven – Chico, Hamilton, Ivy and Newbridge. How about putting those new cameras up at those points.

  2. Living on the west side of Menlo and hardly ever seeing a police car I’m guessing there is more of a police presence in Bell Haven than anywhere else in the city. Most police departments distribute their forces based upon calls for service. If they’re higher in East Menlo I suspect so is the police staffing.
