Two incumbents have filed to run for re-election in November to the Atherton City Council. Two other residents active in civic affairs had taken the first steps to becoming candidates by taking out nomination papers as of Friday afternoon, July 18.

The incumbents are Bill Widmer, who is completing his first term, and Rick DeGolia, elected to a one-year term last year to fill the seat left vacant when Jerry Carlson resigned.

Rose Hau, an architect who is vice chair of the Civic Center Advisory Committee, and Michael Lempres, an attorney who is a member of the town’s Transportation Committee and its Rail Committee, have also taken out papers.

Three seats on the five-member council will be on the ballot.

The council now has only four members. Jim Dobbie, whose term was to expire in November, resigned earlier this year due to poor health, and his unfilled seat is one of the three that voters will fill in the fall.

The deadline for filing is Friday, Aug. 8.
