An unidentified shooter opened fire on a vehicle driving in East Palo Alto Sunday night, leaving one person dead and four injured, according to East Palo Alto police.

The shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Purdue Avenue at Georgetown Street, near Costano Elementary School, according to East Palo Alto Police Sgt. Jeff Liu.

There were six people inside the vehicle, Liu said. Responding emergency crews pronounced one person deceased at the scene and transported four people suffering from wounds to the hospital, according to the Menlo Park Fire Protection District. Two victims were considered immediate-need patients while the other two sustained only minor injuries, the fire district said.

This is the second multi-victim shooting incident that has resulted in a fatality in recent months in East Palo Alto. A man from Hayward was killed and two female East Palo Alto residents injured in a shooting on July 27.
