Three Atherton sports stars are among 10 inductees into the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame who will be recognized at the 2015 induction banquet on July 23 in San Mateo.
The 10 inductees are: National Football League player Ryan Boschetti; track and field coach Bill Daskarolis; basketball player Debbie Dyson; U.S. national women’s wrestler Sara Fulp-Allen; track and field athlete Chi Johnson; basketball coach Doc Scheppler; baseball coach Craig Schoof; world and Olympic wrestling champions David and Mark Schultz; and Major League Baseball commissioner and Olympic games organizer Peter V. Ueberroth.
Fulp-Allen, Schoof and Johnson were all involved with teams in Atherton.
Fulp-Allen competed at Half Moon Bay High School and became a California state champion in wrestling for three straight years while also becoming a national titlist for two of those years. She then became a three-time women’s national champion at Menlo College. In addition, she earned third in the American Olympic trials in both 2004 and 2008 and was a seven-time member of the U.S. National Team.
Schoof coached the Menlo School baseball team for 27 seasons. During those years, the teams chalked up 494 victories, 17 league championships and five Central Coast Section titles. Schoof went on to become Menlo’s athletic director. Under him, the school won 121 league and 32 CCS titles.
Johnson made a name for herself in the early 1990s. She became the CCS and state high jump champion in 1990. She was named the Peninsula Times-Tribune Athlete of the Year in 1990 and again in 1991. She was also an exceptional basketball player at Menlo-Atherton High School. Johnson would go on to compete in track and field at the University of California, Berkeley.
The Hall of Fame induction banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 6:30, at the San Mateo County Event Center Cypress Hall, 1346 Saratoga Drive in San Mateo.
