High school students are invited to create apps for mobile, tablet or desktop computer and submit them for the second annual Congressional App Challenge, sponsored by the U.S. Congress.

Students exhibit their apps via Youtube or Vimeo, and the winning app in each district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, said Rep. Ann Eshoo, D-Menlo Park. The competition runs through Jan. 15.

Over the next decade, the need for graduates in STEM careers in the U.S. is expected to outstrip supply by around 1 million students, Ms. Eshoo said. “The Congressional App Challenge seeks to address this disparity by encouraging students to create their own apps and pursue an education in STEM fields,” she said.
