Tools valued at more than $33,000 were reported stolen in three burglaries at residential construction sites in Atherton between 4 and 5 p.m. the evening of Nov. 24, and a later residential burglary is also under investigation.
Preliminary information on a fourth residential burglary, reported Nov. 29, involved the theft of clothing, jewelry and “banking items,” according to the Atherton Police Department.
Construction workers informed the police on the morning of Nov. 25 that a thief or thieves had forced open a locked gate at a site on Atherton Avenue, then cut open a storage container and stole $25,000 in tools.
At a site on Almendral Avenue, thieves stole tools from several locked containers, while on Linda Vista Avenue, someone stole $8,000 in tools, police said.
The fourth burglary, which occurred on Santiago Avenue sometime between Nov. 26 and 29, may have included the theft of a checkbook, credit cards and an ATM card, police said. The case report for this incident is not yet yet available.

I visited a flea market in the East Bay once. Among the items for sale were many well-used power drills, power saws and hand tools. I bet most of them were stolen from construction sites.
