Menlo Park City School District officials welcomed the public to their new Laurel School Upper Campus in Menlo Park’s Willows neighborhood on Saturday morning, Oct. 22.
Superintendent Maurice Ghysels said the school’s central atrium was packed with attendees at the ceremony, which also included a celebration of Laurel School receiving a National Blue Ribbon school award.
“It was great to see our students, teachers, staff, board members, neighbors and everyone so excited about our new school,” he said.
After some speeches, participants were able to tour the school’s classrooms, collaborative spaces and the outside areas. The school is for students in grade 3 through 5.
“It was amazing how hard everyone worked the weekend before and with Camp Laurel – where students spent several days doing special activities so the teachers could move into the new school – to get everything ready for last Monday (Oct. 17),” Mr. Ghysels said. “It was an incredible team effort and to see the pride and joy of all those involved is a lifetime memory, especially for our students.”
Congratulations Maurice on the new school opening. It sounds like you had an exemplary event! Let’s meet for breakfast or lunch to get caught up sometime soon.
