The Menlo Park City Council will meet Tuesday, Dec. 13 to pick a new mayor.

The title of mayor, according to city guidelines, rotates among council members who have served at least one year. Priority goes to the member who has had the most time go by since last holding the position. If there are two candidates with equal seniority, the council may choose between them.

Since all council members have served at least one term and each had a turn to be mayor, the title will likely fall to the city’s Vice Mayor Kirsten Keith. Peter Ohtaki has spent the most time since last being mayor, so he will likely become vice mayor.

A reception will be held following the meeting at the Latham-Hopkins Gatehouse, located at 555 Ravenswood Ave. in Menlo Park.
