Menlo-Atherton’s Terrance Matthews-Murphy raced 11.23 to win the 100 meters at the St. Francis Invitational on Saturday. He nearly pulled off a double, placing second in the discus with a heave of 146-7.
Both marks put him among the Central Coast Section leaders. He ranks seventh in the 100 and fourth in the discus. Read the story here.
Palo Alto’s Naveen Pai won the 3,000 meters in 9:06.44 while Gunn’s Jonas Enders went 9:13.04 to place third.
Vikings’ Henry Saul finished third in the boys invitational mile in a time of 4:25.93. Kent Slaney finished fourth in 4:28.52.
Sacred Heart Prep’s Natalie Novitsky recorded a 5:28.61 to finish eighth in the girls invitational mile.
Michel-Ange Siaba tripled jump 44-2, third in the CCS so far this year.
The Menlo track and field team came up with a big performances Saturday at the St. Francis Invitational and at the Dublin Distance Fiesta, headlined by Robert Miranda’s record-setting 3,200-meter run.
Miranda, a junior, took fourth at the Dublin Distance Fiesta 3,200 in 9:19.42 to break a school record as well as the former league record set by Daniel Hill (9:20.97) at the CCS Championships.
Miranda’s time ranks second in the CCS this year to Bellarmine’s Meika Beaudoin-Rousseau (9:13.53), who was also the fastest cross country runner in the CCS in the fall.
At St. Francis, Alexandra Chan captured second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.97, the fifth fastest time in the CCS this season. Electa Narasin took seventh in a personal-best 16.93 in a field of 24.
Menlo-Atherton’s Megan St. John went 16.08 in the 100 hurdles, sixth-best in the CCS.
Chan also grabbed second with a PR 47.67 in the 300 hurdles (fifth in CCS) while Narasin placed fifth in 48.26 (10th in CCS).
Castilleja recorded the top local time in the girls distance medley, finishing second in the faster heat, in 12:52.59 with a team of Tevah Gevelber, Lauren Traum, Claire Traum and Cosi Layton. the Paly team finished fourth in 13:14.21.
Gunn’s Jeffrey Lee-Heidenrech won the high jump with a mark of 6-7. He already leads the CCS with a 6-9.
Titans’ Margaret Redfield went 5-2 to finish second in the girls high jump. She’s gone 5-4 and ranks third in the CCS.
Gunn’s Andy Maltz placed seventh in the boys’ shot put at 44-0. Menlo’s Aaron Brown had throw of 33-1.
