More than 1,500 volunteers spent a Saturday late last month repairing homes and community centers on the Peninsula as part of National Rebuilding Day.

The event, held April 27, was organized by Rebuilding Together Peninsula, which rehabilitates community facilities and homes for vulnerable homeowners — in particular those who are elderly and disabled.

Volunteers from Daly City to Sunnyvale repaired 30 homes and 10 community centers, including houses in Menlo Park’s Belle Haven neighborhood. Work included painting homes, building fences and ramps and clearing debris, according to a press release from Rebuilding Together Peninsula.

“For thirty years we’ve been repairing homes and revitalizing communities,” said Melissa Lukin, Rebuilding Together Peninsula executive director. “Through partnerships with dedicated sponsors and volunteers, we help low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly, live in safe and healthy homes, age in place, and pass along their homes to the next generation.”
