Fungus among us
This purple fungus has not been studied closely enough to be identified. Some experts think it may be a young form of Trichaptum biforme, a shelf mushroom with a purple fringe. But Dr. George Caughey has never seen the fungus take on a more robust shape like the Trichaptum biforme and suspects it is a different species.
