Allen (Al) Meyers passed away on Easter Sunday (March 31, 2013) at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Rhodes-Meyers; his five children: Dennis, Doureen, Daniel, Donald and Jacki; 13 grandchildren: and one great-grandson.
Al was born in North Dakota in 1936 to his father Edward (Ed) and mother Martha. As a boy Al moved with his family to California, where he graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School. Al worked in construction from a young age until he joined the Army. Following his military service, he rejoined the profession he loved, building homes and construction. He continued to work in the construction and real estate industry up until his death.
Al loved all sports; he played high school basketball and was an avid bowler. Through his adult life he played men's softball and later he became very active in senior softball.
Over the years Al played for and managed the Redwood City Reds, Remax 55's and the Nor-Cal Blue Jays, winning multiple national championships.
He was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2003 and the NorCal Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2010.
More than anything, Al loved people. He had many friends and was well known in the community. He supported the community and the people he loved, always with a warm smile and easy laugh.
A memorial service will be held on Friday April 19th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Redwood City Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave. Redwood City, California.
