Mary Alice Byrne
April 30, 1926-Feb. 21, 2021
Portola Valley, CA

Mary Alice Byrne passed away peacefully at the age of 94, after a long life filled with family, friends, love and laughter. Mary Alice is survived by her children, John Martin Byrne (Donna), William Mark Byrne (Terri) and Bernadette Byrne; nieces Patricia Byrne and Kathy Byrne, Regina Porter, nephew Courtney Porter Jr.; adored grandchildren Shannon, Brandon, Nicholas, and Katie Byrne, as well as numerous godchildren. Mary Alice is preceded in death by her adoring husband of 60 years, John (Jack) Hayden Byrne, and her Porter family siblings (Martin, Jim, Courtney and Genevieve).

A native San Franciscan, daughter to Martin and Mary Porter, Mary Alice graduated from Star of the Sea High School, and got her Master’s Degree at San Francisco State University. Mary Alice made life-long friends through her honor’s sorority (the “Girls”), who enjoyed monthly lunches, and an annual holiday celebration at The Palace Hotel. Mary Alice was proud of her career as an educator and went on to become not only Principal, but Teacher’s Representative of San Francisco.

Mary Alice relished her role as mother and wife and was known to all as a warm and generous lady with a great sense of humor. Friends and family cherished her regular phone calls to say “Hi!” and to give a cheer. She charmed everyone she met with her boundless energy and sense of joy, and she will be dearly missed by all.
