Paula Wreden Campbell
March 25, 1942-July 3, 2013
San Mateo, California

Paula, a longtime resident and homemaker of San Luis Obispo and a descendant of Henry Wreden, an early San Francisco brewer and San Luis Obispo County cattle rancher, died in Redwood City from a major stroke at age 71. Born in San Mateo, she was a daughter of William and Byra Wreden. A graduate of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Menlo Park, and of Menlo-Atherton High School, she attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, where she met her future husband, Percy Campbell. They were married in 1963 and lived in the San Mateo area before settling in San Luis Obispo in 1969.

Percy distinguished himself as an English and Drama instructor at San Luis Obispo High School while Paula devoted herself to raising their family.

Paula espoused and taught natural child birth classes for several years. She also became an advocate for alternative and holistic health care and for organic farming.

She loved researching family history and genealogy and delighted in discovering that California Gold Rush painter Alburtus Del Orient Browere was a distant relation. Recently, she contributed her memories of youthful summers on her father's Pinole and La Panza ranches to the Carrisa Plains Oral History Project. Paula was sustained and strengthened by her faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Paula and Percy separated in 1992 and he died in 2007. Paula is survived by her children, Anita Erickson of Tigard, Oregon, Thomas of San Mateo, Phillip of Farmington, Utah, Jason of Sandy, Utah, Ian of San Luis Obispo, Adam of Los Angeles, and Justin of San Luis Obispo; her siblings, William, Jr. of Berkeley, Douglas of Santa Margarita, Phillip of Halfway, Oregon, and Denise of Arcata; and ten grandchildren.

Memorial services for Paula will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints: at 4:00 P.M.on Thursday, 18 July, at 1105 Valparaiso Ave, Menlo Park; and at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, 20 July, at 651 E. Foothill Blvd, San Luis Obispo.
