Tami Poffenroth
Sept. 21, 1957-Dec. 22, 2020
Morgan Hill, CA

Submitted by Patrice Bell

Our dear sister Tami Poffenroth passed away in the early morning hours of December 22nd in Morgan Hill at the age of 63.

Tami joined the loving Palo Alto home of Elmer and Relda Poffenroth, brother John and sister Patrice on September 21, 1957. Our mother, so enamored with her sweet daughter, named her Tami, a modified version of the French word Jami, meaning “I love”.

A 1976 graduate of Cubberley High School, Tami went on to work 8 years as a food service worker at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital Canteen, a laundry clerk at Pilgrim Haven, and an office worker at Lozano Inc.

Tami often spent weekends at the Palo Alto Public Library, researching the lives and history of her favorite celebrities. When computers entered our lives, she readily embraced the new technology as she always wanted to learn something new.

Tami loved life and lived it with passion and enthusiasm. She was often the life of the party with her outgoing personality and beautiful smile. Her laugh was infectious and, like our mother, she had sparkling blue eyes. An avid dancer, Tami excelled at belly dancing and would often entertain at family gatherings and perform in local talent shows. She was also a gifted artist and made the most beautiful cards for her family and friends. A long-time member of the Palo Alto First Baptist Church she sang in the choir and participated in other church programs and outings.

Tami was an excellent swimmer. She placed first in the Butterfly and third Freestyle and Backstroke in the 1974 Special Olympics held at San Jose City College. She placed first in the Backstroke and third in the freestyle at the 1976 State Special Olympics Swim Meet held at Santa Monica Junior College.

You never heard an unkind word from her. She was a glowing presence in our lives and will remain a part of us during our lifetimes. If angels exist, she was ours.

She is predeceased by her parents Relda and Elmer Poffenroth and survived by her brother John, sister Patrice, and their families. She loved her family more than anything. D The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care Tami received under the San Jose Kaiser Permanente Hospice program and the incredible staff at Meridian Manor 3 in Morgan Hill.
