Woodside’s soapbox derby will be held Sunday, May 7, in the Woodside town center parking lot at 2955 Woodside Road.
Open to children age 6 through 12 and hosted by the Woodside Recreation Committee, the race will award prizes for best decorated, most original, most complex and fastest vehicles.
Practice begins at 10 a.m. and the race starts at 11 a.m., with a barbecue lunch available at noon.
There were 32 of the 60 kit cars available as of April 7. The race is open to homemade vehicles, but not for the fastest category. Kit-car-assembly sessions are set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23, in Hayward.
