Engineer, inventor and Stanford University lecturer Leslie Field of Portola Valley first turned her focus on polar ice in 2006. She will talk about her team's work testing layers of reflective sand containing silica at experimental sites in the Sierra Nevada, Minnesota and Alaska, and how scientists are hopeful the process could mitigate climate change.
She led a group of researchers to the Arctic last month and is seeking support to fund another trip there this fall.
