Locals win ribbons at horse show

The 11th annual California Equine Foundation/United Professional Horseman's horse show took place May 9-12 at The Horse Park in Woodside with more than 170 entries competing.

Considered the premier horse show for the Western states, the event featured American saddlebreds, Morgans, and hackney ponies, including 40 world champions.

Ethan Feiber, 14, son of Heather Buhr and Jon Feiber of Atherton, won the blue ribbon and championship in the Juvenile 5 gaited class on his horse, River Card. Katie Sinclair, daughter of Becky and Steve Sinclair of Atherton, was winner in the walk/trot pleasure class riding her pinto pony, Pretzel.

Other successful competitors were Allison Freeman of Menlo Park riding Today's My Lucky Day; Nan Chapman of Woodside driving her mare, A Day on the Town; and Lexie Castaillac Seine, daughter of Judy and Jacques Castaillac of Atherton. All these equestrians train and ride with Jennifer Dixon at the Menlo Circus Club Stables.

A new event was "Cowboy Dressage," where 56 riders and horses performed the intricate movements most often seen at more formal dressage competitions.

Proceeds from the horse show benefited the Joanne Pang Foundation, which aims to increase the number of umbilical cord blood units available for transplants.
