PORTOLA VALLEY
Assault report: During a Halloween party, two 10-year-old girls and an 11-year-old boy were assaulted in the parking lot of the Alpine Hills Swim and Tennis Club at 4139 Alpine Road. The children had no visible injuries and refused medical treatment, Oct. 26.
WOODSIDE
Auto burglary report: Someone smashed the rear passenger side window of a vehicle parked near Dennis Martin Creek and stole items from the back seat with an estimated value of $1,500, Oct. 25.
MENLO PARK
Residential burglary reports:
■ Someone entered an unlocked residence on Partridge Avenue and stole a laptop computer and jewelry, a loss estimated at $2,200, Oct. 31.
■ The resident of a Woodland Avenue home spoke to and scared away burglary suspects who had removed a window screen and were trying to pry the window open, Oct. 29.
■ A resident of Ringwood Avenue told police that a would-be burglar trying to gain entry through a bedroom window fled after the resident called 9-1-1. The suspect is male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt, Oct. 25.
Robbery report: A woman who said she had a gun but did not display it robbed the Bank of the West at 701 Santa Cruz Avenue and fled out a side door at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29. She was wearing a red Cincinnati baseball cap, sunglasses, a dark gray or black puffy jacket, gray sweatpants and white-and-black tennis shoes and is believed to be in her mid-20s, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall and of Pacific Islander ethnicity.
Auto burglary reports:
■ Officers found a debit card and a driver’s license belonging to a victim of an unreported auto burglary on Pierce Road, Oct. 30.
■ Someone broke into a vehicle parked on Oak Knoll Lane by smashing a window and stole a purse containing a wallet, sunglasses, a necklace and $65 in cash for a loss total of $466, Oct. 30.
■ A locked vehicle parked on Pierce Road is missing a GPS device with a value of $139, believed stolen during the early morning hours, Oct. 30.
Theft reports:
■ A $1,500 bicycle was left unlocked in the backyard of a Claremont Way residence and is now missing, Oct. 30.
■ Between $1,000 and $1,500 in cash is missing from a residence on Hollyburne Avenue and police are unable to prove conflicting accounts of what happened, Oct. 28.
■ An unlocked bike with a value of $800 was stolen from a bike rack on Pierce Road, Oct. 29.
■ A BMX bicycle with a value of $400 is missing and believed stolen from the rear parking lot of Menlo Velo bicycle shop at 433 El Camino Real, Oct. 30.
■ A patron of McDonald’s restaurant at 1100 El Camino Real is missing $350 in cash and his wallet, believed stolen while inside the restaurant, Oct. 30.
■ Someone broke into a storage shed on Hamilton Avenue and stole a $200 generator, Oct. 31.
Vandalism reports: The front windows of three businesses on Sharon Park Drive — European Shoe Service, El Cerrito Restaurant and Mitsonubu Restaurant — were damaged or smashed, Oct. 27.
Who attacked the 3 kids? Were they attacked by other kids or by adults? Are the suspects named? Were they arrested?
The headline is completely misleading…I was there.
This police call was made by 1 unsupervised child who was spooked by some older rowdy teenagers and made the overly dramatic call to the police. There were “no visible injuries” because there were no inuries to report. There are no “suspects” to arrest.
The mothers of the unsupervised children had 1. left their children at the Club without any supervision (against Club policy) and 2. never apologized to Club management, staff, the police or Board members who spent the evening trying to sort out the misunderstanding.
The only thing that was dramatic about this event was the mother’s negligence and lack of common decency.
Did the rowdy teenagers make physical contact with the 3 children or was this all verbal? Physical violence of any kind is criminal assault, even if there are no injuries.
@parent – perhaps you are thinking of battery.
Assault is attempted battery, and battery is a completed assault.
It is about time parents upervise their children. Why have them if you are not responsible for them? Alpine is not a babysitter. It is a pity it took this type of incident to opent the eyes of the community.
