Night-time rail work Dec. 15-16

Original post made by Andrea Gemmet, Almanac staff writer, on Dec 7, 2006

Caltrain officials announced plans to install a "track panel" at the Watkins Avenue grade crossing on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16.

The project is considered routine maintenance, and should improve vehicle crossings over the tracks.

To avoid train delays, the work will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be construction noise from the equipment, but crews will work as quietly as possible, according to Caltrain spokewoman Christine Dunn.

Ms. Dunn said crews will be spraying weeds along the right-of-way from San Francisco to San Jose every night during the week of Dec. 10 to Dec. 17.  Weed abatement is necessary to help maintain a clear line-of-sight for the engineer, she said.
