Top five films of 2006

Original post made by Mr. Movie Man, another community, on Dec 14, 2006

I didn't see all of the movies I wanted to this year, but here are my top five for 2006:

1. "The Departed"
2. "Little Miss Sunshine"
3. "Thank You For Smoking"
4. "The Descent"
5. "Borat"

Also enjoyed: "Casino Royale" and "Friends With Money"
Looking forward to seeing (most likely on DVD): "The Queen" and "Half Nelson"

Anyone else have a top five to share?

"Thank you for smoking" was the surprise of the movie season for me.

It was really funny, thought-provoking and it consistently refused to take the path of least resistance in terms of plot and character development. Maybe it wasn't the best movie of the year, but it was a darn good one.
