Is there a mental illness reporting center?

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

Here is the background information for my question:

I have a neighbor who may have a mental illness. He/She closes the door when exiting about 10 times and double checks the lock several more times. He/She always waits around for people in the building and will verbally corner you in to talk to you. He/She makes comments that make my spouse uncomfortable. He/She tells me that he/she is interested in a person who is the same height as my spouse.

I can't really list all of the things that make me nervous. Many are un PC but are the things that you too would find "curious" privately.

My question is this: can I report this person to any local authorities? Is it ok to have someone who may need medical help running around undiagnosed?

Please please please do not respond with any PCish comments about privacy and all of that. Think of my perspective as this... a parent concerned about the safety of their child.

This is a question that you might ask a dear friend... a friend who you can be "real" and uncensored.

If you think the person is a danger to himself or others, or gravely disabled, you should absolutely call the police department.

Even if you think it doesn't rise to that level, you might consider calling the police so that they can check the person's welfare. Depending on the circumstances, they might make a referral to the County's Adult Protective Services department.

Tell them your story; they can decide if it merits investigation. If they choose not to pursue it, you can feel comfortable knowing you took the time to put the problem on their radar.

your post sparked my interest. There is a person who walks past my house all the time both in the daylight and at odd hours and seems to have a mental illness due to the inappropriate comments he/she makes. Some comments involve my height which is intersting you mentioned that. I wasn't at home one time when my mother was visiting and he/she asked around for me, when she claimed she didn't know me this person became aggrivated and left. She did notify the police. I do know this persons name and I would just be careful if it is the same person, seems a bit unstable.

Thanks for your comment. I wonder if we are talking about the same person? How exactly did this person become aggrivated? Did he say or do anything to the property? If enough people get together and if it is the same person, perhaps something can be done about it. Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hey -- Heshe became aggrivated because my mom said that I didn't live there-- he/she knows I do bc he/she walks by in the summertime when I am sitting out front in my lawn chair with friends. He comments on my hair and how tall I am and whatnot. It's pretty creepy but he/she seems 'special'. Mom was being protective and said I don't know who you are talking about and he/she just got annoyed and kept bugging her. He/she didn't act violent, just creepy I guess and eventually left. I've seen him/her walking up santa cruz ave at like 3 or 4 in the morning too. I think they just need some help.
