Woodside council: Election or no election?

Original post made by Andrea Gemmet, Almanac staff writer, on Aug 17, 2007

The Woodside Town Council is holding a special meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 22, to decide whether to hold an election this November or simply appoint the four unopposed candidates to the four available seats on the council.

In the past, the council has chosen to go ahead with an election in order to allow write-in candidates to run. It's known informally as "The John Blake rule," referring to the 1997 council race when Mr. Blake won election as a write-in candidate.

While the filing period for candidates appearing on the ballot has closed, write-in candidates have until late October to register with the county.

The special meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in Independence Hall, 2955 Woodside Road. Call 851-6790 or find the agenda on the town's Web site: Web Link
