This is all very nice and all, but why don't we local residents have a say regarding the inconvenience of having our roads closed for protracted periods for someone else's amusement. If a horde of flatlander bicyclists want to hold an event like this, why don't they stick to their own neighborhoods? Say, a loop around El Camino, Alma, University Ave, Bayshore frontage roads, and across the San Mateo and Dumbarton Bridges. If it's OK for them to come here, why not in their own places?

Alekaneleno, thanks for your positive comments. I'm an avid cyclist, I live in Portola Valley and I say THANKS to those arranging the ride. Gives me and many others the opportunity to enjoy a fun, relaxing day on my bike.

Alekaneleno, the roads will not be closed. The inconvenience should be minor if not nonexistent. These bicyclists will be traveling in small groups spread out over many miles. It will be just like any other weekend, perhaps with a few more bikers than usual. This is a fundraiser. Who in their right mind would organize a ride where they charge people to ride their bikes on El Camino? I can guess at how much money you would raise doing that.

It's a good cause and I bet you barely notice the cyclists as they will be stretched out. Beats having a hoard of bunch of Harleys roaring through your town!

Maybe cyclists and Portola Valley residents could come to some sort of arrangement: bicyclists from the flatlands won't venture into Portola Valley as long as residents of that town keep their SUVs in the driveway and don't ever leave Portola Valley's town boundaries.
