Castilleja's Minnis takes polo jobs at Harvard

Original post made on Jul 6, 2010

Ted Minnis wanted so much to win a Central Coast Section water polo title with his Castilleja team. He looked forward to being thrown in the water and letting the championship just soak in. For Minnis, this was an ultimate goal on the high school level. Ted did a great job working with the girls at Stanford Water Polo and Casti.

Congrats on his new position.

Ted was a great boys' coach at Menlo-Atherton where he graduated from before working at Castilleja.

Congratulations Teddy!

I remember Ted in the 90s as a basketball referee in the Burgess youth league. He worked a few games for the third graders I coached, at 7 a.m. on Saturday no less. He knew how to connect with the players and always took time to explain the finer points of the rules and help them acquire confidence in their skills. After a game with Ted as referee, the boys would go around repeating "now what did you just do?" in imitation.

He stands out in my memory as one of the most exceptional people I've encountered in kids' sports, and I am not surprised to hear that he has done so well.
