Last week I received a call from two different friends saying they found a dead cat in there back yard. Two cats in one week alone, and that is only in my close circle of Atherton friends. So far what I am finding dead cats are located West of El Camino Real between Selby, the other Selby, and Stcokbridge. It seems to be in a 1 mile radios. The two friends this past week live about 5 acres from each other. If you find a dead cat please call Atherton PD. They (SPCA) can check for a micro chip on the dead animal. If your animals do not have micro chips now is the time to chip them. This has been an ongoing problem in Atherton for at least 6 months. It is so sad. If you have any questions or would like to help please call me. Colleen Anderson 650-369-4949. I have contacted Atherton PD and was told it was SPCA problem. It is all of our problems if you love this town like I do. Contact Atherton PD and ask what they are doing about it and then post it to town square. Atherton PD phone number is 650-688-6500. Please ask them to get involved.

Cats being poisoned in Atherton
Atherton, posted by Colleen Anderson, a resident of the Atherton: West Atherton neighborhood, on May 28, 2010 at 8:48 am

Here is a police log back in May. The 2 dead cats were found this last week July 22 aprox.
The count keeps rising.

09:07 ANIMAL CALL 100524016

Occurred on Stockbridge Av. .Residents advises that pet cats are returning injured when they return from an abandoned property in the area. Appears the cats are being injured by traps that have been set and poison. Animal control notified. Disposition: Referred To Other Agency.

This isn't funny. Contact Atherton to make sure they do something about this sad situation. I feel the homeowner should be brought up on criminal charges for poisoning cats.

People who love cats don't let them roam free. This is why.

Cat Lover--there is no cat in this world who wants to be declawed and locked inside for their entire life.
They should have a reasonable expectation to visit around their neighborhood without being poisoned.
You may have confused them with hamster ownership.
People need to stop spreading poison around where it might effect neighbors, groundwater, wildlife and pets.

who said anything about declawing? We don't let dogs wander freely, why should cats?

Because cats are cats and not dogs
We don't let dogs fly around in the air either--thats for birds mostly
Do we need a discussion on who is allowed to climb trees?
I do think that all kitties should be home for dinner and bed by dark for safety...and to let the wild things have their turn at the turf

Cats should not be allowed to roam free. It is not good for them and exposes them to dangers that they shouldn't be exposed to, not to mention the damage they do to neighbors property. Including defecating on neighbor properties. Unless, of course, you run around after your free roaming cat picking up its fecees.

Supposed "Cat Lover" Why don't you spend more time making calls and trying to help the animals of Atherton than judging others. It's people like you that judge and don't do anything to help the animals. I can't tell you the amount of time I have spent trying to stop this. I would recommend you do something productive to help. Now back to the real point animals in Atherton are being found dead. If you would like to help me please call me.

Cats also kill birds:

"The American Bird Conservancy estimates that as many as one billion birds are killed each year by domestic and feral cats in North America"

if you really loved cats you would keep them indoors where they are safe instead of trying to impose your vision of "cat heaven" on the rest of the world. Keep your cats indoors and they don't get poisoned. Simple, non?
