Last chance to use Stanford money to fix Lower Alpine Road trail

Original post made by Lovinda Beal, Portola Valley: Ladera, on Dec 5, 2011

Did you see the article in the "Daily Post" last Thursday? One extension of the article I draw is that the Lower Alpine Road corridor's best chance for improvement depends on Stanford's money.

Using the mitigation funds offered to San Mateo County, from the Santa Clara County GUP (General Use Permit), at least for researching options, could perhaps lead to better speed enforcement, traffic light(s), repairs to the existing trail, and/or a relocated trail. Without the $10.3 million of Stanford's money, it doesn't appear that there is a budget for getting anything done.

We are at a decision point. It is not a decision as to what to do. It is a decision as to whether to use Stanford funds to research options. Once we know the options, we can make an informed choice, and perhaps use Stanford's funds to improve the path/trail, road, and maybe even make environmentally sensitive repairs where San Francisquito Creek threatens to undercut Alpine Road.

Dave Holland, Assistant County Manager of San Mateo County, and his staff, have researched the options thoroughly. They have held many meetings and invited public comment. His staff recommends that the Supervisors say "Yes".

Please contact your friends, relatives, and colleagues, and ask them to email the San Mateo County supervisors in support of accepting the funds, and/or attend the meeting on 12/13.

Working together, we can make a positive difference,
