And that is why the residents of Atherton want to maintain their own police department. If they outsourced to the SMCSO, the deputies would tell them to pull their heads out and grow up. Of course, the deputies wouldn't be taking in mail, watering lawns or any of the other nonsense Atherton has its police officers doing. You know, those things that PROFESSIONAL police officers don't do. You know, those things one hires private security to do or (gasp) they do for themselves. But, then, the wealthy are not like you or me.

ATHERTON POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Police Activity January
There were 73 criminal investigations for the month of January. Fifty-nine (59) offenders were cited, arrested or referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Forty-nine (49) of
those cases were for vehicle code violations that include driving without a license, driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The other cases were for battery, warrant arrests, and providing false identification to a police officer.
Of the 1,666 total police incidents for the month of January, 717 were officer initiated incidents, which resulted in 534 citations being issued for vehicle code violations. Officers also initiated
220 other types of incidents that included contacting suspicious people on the street or in cars, as well as security checks at schools and Holbrook Palmer Park.
Holbrook Palmer Park had 26 incidents this reporting period, 19 of which were security checks by officers. Other police activity at the park included suspicious vehicles, a leash law violator,an illegally parked vehicle, and the report of a suspicious woman wandering through the main house.
Officers responded to 4 ordinance violation calls this month. These calls were for the report of a political sign posted on property (there was no violation as the sign was on private property),illegal solicitors, and a parking violations.
APD performed a total of 814 home security checks during January.
Wow. Not a single felony. Certainly not any self initiated felony arrests. 80% of the cases of arrests or referal to the DA were for traffic violations. Wow. With El Camino running through the middle of town, I would think that number would be higher. Shootin' fish in a barrel dont'cha know?
Seriously, are you guys trying to impress us with the police work you do? Where I come from, that isn't police work. That's busy work.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
