Menlo Park: Fired gymnastics instructor says she's filed complaint with state

Original post made on May 5, 2013

The public doesn't know the results or how much it cost, but it now knows that on April 29, Menlo Park got the final report of the investigator hired to look into allegations of harassment and a toxic workplace environment within the city's gymnastics program. This, however, doesn't appear to be the end of the matter.

I'd like to know more about the parent who filed a complaint alleging she was 'unprofessionally' asked to leave her child's class. What was she doing in the class in the first place? Did she have the school's and the teacher's permission? Without those, she definitely had no business being there. Plus, she should have left immediately she was asked to do so. It doesn't sound as if she went politely. I don't want disruptive parents observing my child's gymnastics class.

The ease with which a parent's complaint, justified or not, can get am instructor fired is why tenure is necessary to keep good teachers in a school. Additionally, principals do harbor resentments and treat some teachers unfairly. It sounds as though that is happening in this situation.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
