A woman was struck and killed by a train at Caltrain’s Redwood City station this morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The woman was struck at about 6:15 a.m. by Caltrain No. 305 on the northbound tracks at the station located at 1 James Ave., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

Train No. 305 had about 200 passengers on board and was not scheduled to stop at Redwood City. The train was eventually moved to the San Carlos station to allow the passengers to get off, then was taken to a maintenance facility in San Jose.

As of about 7 a.m., trains were single-tracking through the area on the southbound tracks but did not stop at the Redwood City station, according to Dunn. Bus shuttles were also taking passengers between the San Carlos and Menlo Park stations.

Some train routes were canceled while others were delayed by 20 or more minutes.

  1. Life is too painful to continue, but yet dying by train guarantees public attention. Just as we’re doing here. Would more attention by others to this person prior to the suicide have prevented it?
