gun spotter

Original post made by grizzled old timer, Atherton: Lloyden Park, on Mar 14, 2014

Does the San Mateo county sheriff have a gun shot spotter?

Last night around of rifle shots went off about 10 pm, and then there was a big boom. Sounded like it was coming from south of Garfield school.

Are you supposed to call law enforcement and report these sounds?

Re: gun shots and loud explosive boom.

We heard that also. In fact, we heard it on 2 days in a row. It was right around that time: 10 P.M. both nights.

If it continues, I probably will call the Police Dept to report it. They may already know what the sounds are and can provide information. That has been my experience in the past.

Also, I forgot to mention:

We were wondering if the sounds had anything to do with PG&E testing gas lines in the area. That might be a possibility.

Just an update:

KCBS Radio covered this around 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning (3-20-14). They reported that the sounds have been heard by several people living in Redwood City. Police say the location of the sounds are in the area of Costco (Middlefield Road area). Police narcotics squad is investigating since they believe it may have to do with drug traffic.

They've had shot 'sonar' in RC for ages (at least a decade iirc)
