The two teen's parents should count themselves as fortunate indeed that their kids were not fired upon by deputies as a result. If they had been killed, it wouldn't have been the first time that had happened to a juvenile with an air rifle.

Out of curiosity, why are probation department authorities considering the charges versus the county DA? Have the kids previously been arrested?

I hope these kids are handled with a blind eye for their socio-economic/demographic status. Rich white boys often get treated very differently than poor minority boys. How inappropriate it would be for these kids to get off with a slap on the wrist if they have rich parents, or arrested and charged if they have poor parents. Please let the justice system be blind to parental status in this case....been seeing too many examples of rich kid entitlement going unchecked in our community.

Kaz is so blinded by his class-envy that he has the statistics all wrong. Fact is, these days its the "people of color" who are given every advantage. Let's try to see what actually happened here rather than so quickly looking at skin color in hopes of finding a politically correct misstep.

But, the article says they were found on the 'outskirts' and 'outside the fence' of the school. Why are we even considering this as a school grounds violation?

Over-reaction? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Think about Colorado and all of the similar situations. Teens with guns.

Let me be clear:for any parent out there: Kids playing with "toy"guns in this day and age are simply asking to be shot. Ye, shot and maybe even killed!

A former neighbor and gun owner flat out said that if, "I ever saw someone with a gun I would shoot first, and ask questions later…. and if I found out I had made a mistake I would drag that body over my threshhold and claim self defense". This was someone who by all accounts seemed rational. Someone's husband and a father; an upstanding, home-owning, employed, educated man but with an entirely shocking approach. You would never know he too was (very) armed and very dangerous. Scared the ^&* out of me because I knew he was dead serious. Chances are that he is not the only one with this approach.

It's a different day and age and playing with guns in the wake of teenage mass homicides is not worth the risk.

Even more astonishing is that they were just turned over for their parents' corrective behavior rather that Juvi Hall.

We have friends who were there, with their young children, at a soccer game when this happened. The children have nightmares and won't sleep alone in their rooms.

Yes, these stupid teenagers should be held accountable.

But so should their parents.

Turnabout: you may indeed be turned around; you've got the class perspective issue wrong. It's not class envy, it's watching my peers' kids act as entitled as French kings that has me disturbed. They are damn lucky they weren't shot, and they and their parents should feel the consequences deeply. Entitled and stupid, what a pitiful combo.

So did these idiots carry the weapons onto campus or not? Regardless, why weren't the arrested? Were they cited and released to their parents?

Turnabout - have you been paying attention to the real news? You know, the real news where those w/darker skin are shot and killed w/more frequency by the cops than white people are? The exception might be the homeless and/or mentally ill who are often killed by the cops, no matter what their ethnic background.
