Explosions, gunfire and yelling — all simulated — may be heard coming from the former campus of James Flood Elementary School this week as the Menlo Park police and other law enforcement agencies stage training exercises.
The training will simulate a number of different critical incidents, including one set in a school environment, for approximately 20 officers, according to Menlo Park police spokeswoman Nicole Acker.
The exercises run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday (Sept. 15) through Friday (Sept. 19) at 321 Sheridan Drive, with officers starting off with classroom instruction.
The R.A.I.D.E.R. — “Rapid Deployment, Awareness, Intervention, Decisiveness, EMS, Recovery” — training is being coordinated by the ALICE Institute, according to Ms. Acker.
Too bad this school is not being used for it’s intended purpose! EDUCATING CHILDREN It has been vacant for quite sometime now and not very pretty to look at anymore. What a waste of a valuable asset!
