Interim pastor aims to help revitalize church

Original post made on Apr 30, 2015

Atheists have a philosophical belief in common with the Rev. Ama Zenya, the interim head of the congregation at the Woodside Village Church. "I don't believe in the God that atheists don't believe in either," Ms. Zenya told the Almanac.

Ama sounds great, I hope that her progressive and open style of leadership will be well received in Woodside.

Ama, "the God that atheists don't believe in" is _all of them_. They don't believe in any of the gods that humans have worshipped. They don't believe in Krishna, nor Osiris, nor Zeus, nor Odin, nor Amaterasu, nor Allah, nor Jehovah, nor the impersonal noninterventionist Prime Mover of deism... nor in whatever yours is.

Wondering... Who made the choice to lead this story about a local church effort to revitalize and the "hired gun" given this tough assignment with, of all things, a quote aimed not at encouraging those with faith instead of this "shot across the bow" of the good ship, Atheist? As "Lionheart" demonstrates, a comment such as the one that leads this introduction to Mrs. Zenya and a church in crisis is both inflammatory and foolhardy... Pithy, yes, cryptic only to those who've already said "yes" to God but useless in the effort to persuade the unattached of our Faith that WVC is a safe-haven and not a protagonist in the prevailing culture war that is the scourge of these so-called united states! I believe this article does not represent either the Spirit of Woodside Village Church or of Ama Zenya, a minister of peace. sjb
