Downtown Menlo Park gets a French patisserie

Debora Ferrand of Atherton, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate who was raised in France, is opening her own patisserie in the former home of Sugar Shack on Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park.

Of course, downtown gets another pastry & right next to Suzy's pastry shop as well ! Just like having Bow Wow
Meow across from the Pet Place ! When is the next drug store & hardware store going in ?

That's wonderful! I hope it's high quality, similar to Prolific Oven or Bouchon in Yountville and differentiates itself from the more child geared taste palette and offerings of Suzy's.

Good news--another empty retail spot on Santa Cruz is being filled by a local entrepreneur (aka small business owner). Let's support her new venture as well as other local businesses and help keep our downtown vibrant and healthy.

Actually this is NOT next to Suzy Cakes. But that's even better. This way you have time to consume your croissant as you walk to Suzy Cakes to purchase your butter and flour in a different form. This is great. It really is nice to have high quality food available in MP

I was born and raised in Menlo Park; lived there for 50 years; moved from Menlo 20 years ago, and haven't returned since. What happened to Pink's Pastry? That was THE place to go back in the day. It was with much anticipation we stood with others at the bakery counter, waiting to pick up the holiday pies we had ordered in advance OVER THE PHONE (a phone where you actually DIALED THE NUMBER of the person you wanted to reach). I know, I know...I'm a dinosaur, a relic from the past. ; )

Menlo Dude is right - it's not right next to SusieCakes. I think a patisserie is a great idea. It's good to have a bit more French influence in Menlo.

So far, some of the best key lime pies I've ever had have come from Draeger's and SusieCakes. Let's see what this place offers.

Let's cheer on our local retailers and help them survive ! So happy to hear that the spot will be taken by someone with a dream. Instead of naysaying and negative reactions about how this shop may be redundant, we should give it a chance. Menlo Park needs shopkeepers like this.

What does Menlo Park have that Redwood City doesn't? Nothing, what does Menlo have that Palo Alto doesn't? Nothing, unfortunately. What we refer to "downtown" in Menlo Park is a few blocks of stores that have been in business for 30+ years and are still paying off their loans. Paly and Redwood City have what we don't- space. Those two cities appeal to the eye. Menlo hasn't had much change, it's still that "quiet ghost town" as my daughter and her friends refer it to. The weekly farmers market, that's always a fun place to go to, and the various block parties that don't spark much attention.. Hopefully this business has the Bay talking about us.
