Atherton: Still the Worst (Caltrain Electrification Edition)

Original post made by SP1863, Menlo Park: Suburban Park/Lorelei Manor/Flood Park Triangle, on Jul 10, 2016

The Merc reports that Athertonians are yet again uniting the Peninsula, specifically by making everyone else hate them. The crime this time? Opposing the Caltrain electrification project that's beloved by everyone, especially environmentalists:

Mayor Rick DeGolia wrote that the railroad "is locked into an old technology and 20th century thinking", but then undermined his modern view by calling the line "Cal Train", a outdated spelling/spacing that is basically like saying you're going to see your favorite "base ball squadron". Welcome to 2016, Rick! The rest of us would like to ride faster/more frequent trains and not breathe diesel particulates. Is that OK with you?

Agree that Atherton is a terrible neighbor. Towns on the peninsula need to cooperate on transportation and other social issues.

Atherton understands that Caltrain electrification is the camels nose under the tent for HSR. It's actualy a shame that the other cities along the corridor don't oppose it as well.

@Menlo Voter

Yes, other cities should be fighting a project which is hugely beneficial to themselves, as well as to the entire region, on the basis that it could share tracks with HSR at some point in the future. If one can believe it there seems to be a sizable contingency in Atherton that would actually like to have Caltrain shut down and the tracks removed.
