Is there a possible consensus that this election cycle is so messed up because of money?

Original post made by Mr.SmithRunsFromOffice, another community, on Aug 11, 2016

I am just wondering what people think about the relationship of money,
billionaires, corporations and even foreign influences in our election cycles
has gotten us in terms of our system of electing government representatives?

For at least two decades now we have been cementing in place the idea of
marketing our politicians to the people like products using PR and the
Advertising industry? I don't recall reading about this part of government
in my Constitution.

Are we really bringing before the country the best qualified, smartest,
with the greatest leadership skills and the greatest vision of where our
country is and where it can be in the future?

One thing seems to be for certain, that money is the only thing that
benefits from this system or it would not be taking everything over
more completely, and as monied influences prosper the rest of the people
are being sucked down to the level of third world peasants.

Our financial system and corporations have taken away the democracy
and diversity of most of our media, and our only citizen driven defense
from it, the government is doing nothing about it, not even talking about
anti-trust legislation, which seems to be completely dead or discredited
for no real reason other than money supports that. Newspapers are
downsizing, folding, or being bought out as editorial channels for billionaires.

All throughout this internationally embarrassing mess, money is winning,
getting bigger, and likely will continue to with the productized candidates
we have been offered.

Please 0.1%'ers .... sure, go make your money, but please go back to
paying your progressive share of taxes and letting the political system
alone. How much do you need, how much of our lives do you need to
run?

Let us see if with all the tech and all the spying we have done on each
other that we can use it for something useful and can accomplish some
of the social programming ideas with greater efficiency and faster feedback.
The system was not really so bad compared to what the activist elite of
the 0.1%'ers have brought to us in the last 30 years since you all and
Reagan unleashed the Bull..
