Redwood City School District Parcel Tax Increase On Ballot

Original post made by Jack Hickey, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Aug 24, 2016

Measure U is the designation for a parcel tax increase and 14 year extension sought by the Redwood City School District.

Your ballot will not mention the increase. Measure W is a temporary, $67 per parcel, school parcel tax that was approved by local voters on June 5, 2012.

Measure U asks "shall the Redwood City Elementary School District renew its educational parcel tax at $85"? Folks, this is deliberate DECEPTION! And, their contract with TBWB continues that deception as they publicize the virtues of the old Measure W on their website, in informational fact sheets to be distributed at school sites and school functions, included in email updates and added to newsletters, in PowerPoint presentations for school and community meetings and in mailings to educate, inform and engage voters. FORMAL NOTICE OF SPECIAL TAX ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the qualified electors of the Redwood City Elementary School District of San Mateo County, California, that in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code, the Elections Code, and the Government Code of the State of California, an election will be held on November 8, 2016, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of the District the proposition summarized as follows:
Elementary Education Improvement and Student Achievement Measure
To maintain quality education for local elementary and middle school students, with funds that cannot be taken by the State, enhance reading, writing, math, and science skills; attract and retain qualified teachers; and support arts and music programs; shall the Redwood City Elementary School District renew its educational parcel tax at $85, providing $1,900,000 annually for 14 years, exempting seniors, with independent citizen oversight, annual reports to the community, no money for administrators and all money benefitting local schools?

Sequoia Healthcare District director, Jack Hickey, can resign when he abolishes the District. It started as a hospital district to build and run Sequoia Hospital. Now they have sold the hospital but the other Directors still refuse to go out of business! They keep collecting the same taxes with no hospital to support, and nothing required to accomplish with the money.

Help Jack Hickey resign. Let's abolish the District we do not need any more.

Vote for Lois Garcia and Harland Harrison to close Sequoia Healthcare District.

No more hospital. No more taxes.

Mr. Harrison: Jack Hickey has been sitting, uselessly occupying, his seat for 14 years.

In his own words, his top three accomplishments in 14 years are "getting more votes".

Just another incumbent unwilling to go away and make room for strong, fresh, virile candidates that CAN GET THE JOB DONE. He is blocking the way to getting the job done, to getting the strong candidates on board. All so he can enjoy sitting there for 14 years, accomplishing his real grand vision: "getting more votes".

Also: he claims to support term limits, yet.........

FOURTEEN. YEARS.

Mr. Harrison: I must therefore question your judgement, teaming up with our local incumbent whose sole accomplishment is getting re-elected. What, if anything, makes you different?

Will you achieve results, or will you just talk, like our incumbent?

Mr. Harrison: They are, in political parlance, softball questions. Hit it out of the park on both.

What, if anything, makes you as a politician different from Jack?

Will you achieve results, or will you just talk, like our incumbent?

This topic is Redwood City School District Parcel Tax Increase On Ballot"

Where's the outrage over the deceptive ballot language? Oh, I forgot. It's for the children, in which case, the end justifies the means. Or is it for the unfunded liability in the teacher's retirement fund?
