Qualifications for Sequoia Healthcare District Directors

Original post made by Jack Hickey, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Sep 15, 2016

In an article in the Daily Journal, "Four seek seats on Sequoia Healthcare District board: Two incumbents run against newcomers promoting dissolution" Web Link incumbent Director Kim Griffin noted "...anyone who is elected must continue to work for the district until voters approve otherwise."

Quite the contrary. If Harland Harrison and Lois Garcia are elected, they must stop the District's philanthropic activities until the voters have been given an opportunity to decide the District's future. This would necessitate a cessation of property tax collections effected by an annual notification to the San Mateo County Controllers Office. Property owners of the District would see a reduction in their taxes during these annual periods.

See memo from District Counsel, Mark Hudak,:Web Link which says:

"A local district does have the power to decline its share of property tax revenues. Revenue & Taxation Code §96.8 allows the governing board of a district to decline some or all of its share of the general tax rate on a one-year basis. When this occurs, the 1% general tax rate is reduced accordingly and each property’s taxes would be lower by that amount. The decision to decline its share of the property must be made each year, prior to August 1. Section 96.8 does
not allow a district to decline its taxes permanently or for a period longer than one fiscal year. If a district were to dissolve, it would not be in a position to make this annual decision."

I personally know Harland and Lois to be highly intelligent individuals, with superior computer skills, capable of researching the issues and engaging in the public discourse necessary to effect a solution to the "legitimacy" issue of the Sequoia Healthcare District. And, it will be televised.

What is the background of these folks you vociferously support?

Doctors? Public health specialists? Or are they just avid readers of Ayn Rand, the russian who hypocritically used medicare and social security?

@SCP: Actually, I believe they had to sign a loyalty oath to Mr. Hickey. AND pass a quiz on Ayn Rand's works.

pogo is a registered user.

They're community organizers... and both Harland Harrison and Lois Garcia have my vote.

We are paying to taxes to a hospital district THAT NO LONGER HAS A HOSPITAL. I don't need some bureaucrats to distribute my tax dollars to charities. I am perfectly capable of doing that myself.

Community organizers? Like Barack Obama? Say it ain't so!

Here's the first line of Harrelson's website: "9-11 changed everything. Our government rejected all honesty, and took advantage of our fear. They started lying to us, without any sense of shame."

Web Link

Also has this, deeper into hi site: ...and Harland Harrison (L), issued a joint statement opposing the Global Anti-Semitism Monitoring Act. This bizarre law, partially written by incumbent Tom Lantos...

Wowsers.

Lots of strange stuff, including rants on opening the borders to immigrants, and supporting unrestricted free trade, etc..

Doesn't sound like a Community Organizer.

Where do find out info on the real Harland?
