In reaction to two home-invasion robberies in Portola Valley – on June 12 and Oct. 13 – and a residential burglary on Oct. 18, the Town Council is hosting a “town safety” meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Community Hall at 765 Portola Road.
Each of the two home-invasion robberies involved three armed men who confined the home’s occupants while the robbery took place. The Oct. 13 incident left one of the residents with a cut to the side of his head, the only reported injury.
Town Manager Jeremy Dennis sent an email to residents asking them that, if they can’t make the meeting, to send their thoughts to him at jdennis@portolavalley.net. A staff report ahead of the meeting will be available online, probably at the town’s website, on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 4, Mr. Dennis said.
Mr. Dennis noted the activities of San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office deputies in response to the crimes, including ongoing investigations and their continuing willingness to “respond positively” to requests for increased patrols and assistance.
In responding to the Oct. 18 residential burglary, the Sheriff’s Office deployed its airplane to overfly the town for a few hours, Mr. Dennis said.
“Other activities are ongoing,” he added. “Given the sensitive nature of some of these additional activities, I cannot be specific, but rest assured, there is a much greater Sheriff’s presence in our community during this time of need.”
Mr. Dennis requested that residents use this link to register their email addresses with Town Hall. Among the categories of messages available to registrants is a new one: Town Safety (in the News category).
Deputies and detectives who work in Portola Valley plan to be available to meet residents from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. at the Community Hall, Mr. Dennis said.
