Star Trek and the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey were instrumental in who
I am today and sparked my interests both in science and in social justice
and evolution.

I am not much of a joiner or a Trekie, but I still remember waiting and finally
tuning into the first episode of Star Trek on our at the time black and white
TV and occasionally getting to watch it at a neighbors house in color, a
neighborhood event for the kids.

We all had such high hopes for the post-2000 world and now the prognosis
for this century doesn't look to great 16 years into it in terms of a golden
age of technology and civilization. This is very sad to me after carrying
around so many positive hopes for the future.
