Joint community effort to save Menlo's Guild Theater - Superbowl Sun., Feb 5 at Palo Alto Square Theater

Original post made by Judy Adams, Menlo Park: Downtown, on Feb 3, 2017

Update on the petition in support of Menlo Park's Guild Theater

The Palo Alto Square remains open because of hard work of residents and the city to convince Cinearts to keep the theater open; now residents of Palo Alto and Menlo Park are joining forces to try to save another important and treasured theater, the 90 year old single-screen Guild theater in Menlo Park. Our special Superbowl Sunday Guild petition effort will be at the Palo Alto Square before the 4:00 and 4:15 movies. Petition organizer Judy Adams of Menlo Park and volunteer Neilson Buchanan of Palo Alto and another volunteer, will be asking moviegoers to sign the petition to keep the theater in Menlo Park open.

The Guild was listed last January - and is still listed - for sale or redevelopment on a long-term lease). Neilson was part of the petition drive that succeeded in deferring the closure of the Palo Alto Square theater and is now lending a hand to the effort for the Guild. We're joining forces for embattled neighborhood theaters and their contributions to the cultural and social quality of life in communities.

The Guild is in walking distance of the center of Menlo Park, public transit, and a favorite of fans of international and independent films, providing social connectedness and links to local restaurants, bookstores and the library.

If you're planning on watching the Superbowl, you can sign the petition online by using this url: Web Link. Or look for Adams or Buchanan or other petition volunteers at the Guild's afternoon or early evening shows on weekends and sign the print petition there. We're also planning to have the petition available outside the Aquarius for some weekend shows. Look for us at the movies, or sign our online petition - we have over 2200 signers of the combined print and online petitions.
