To launch the redevelopment of a 6.4-acre site at 1300 El Camino Real, a groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Greenheart Land Co. plans to build 420,000 square feet of apartments, offices and retail space at 1300 El Camino Real and Oak Grove Avenue in downtown Menlo Park.

The project is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy sometime in 2019, according to Bob Burke, principal at Greenheart.

According to plans approved by the City Council in January, there will be 183 apartments, up to about 200,000 square feet of offices, and 29,000 square feet for restaurants, shops or “community-serving” businesses, such as exercise studios or salons.

About 10,000 square feet may be converted into either office or retail space, depending on the market, Mr. Burke and Greenheart principal Steve Pierce say. There will be a two-story underground parking garage and a small surface parking lot that will have a total of 991 parking spots.

  1. Whatever:

how do you expect them to do work in the street without closing lanes? And work in the street WILL be necessary. A lot of it.

  2. Road closures can be kept to a minimum by consolidating work involving ECR and only doing it on nights, weekends and holidays. Site access should be strictly limited to Garwood and Derry. All too often Caltrans, and by extension the City allow the contractor to dictate lane closures on ECR which result in unnecessary congestion. The City should demand/require a lane closure plan that minimize any ECR lane closures. The City, and not individual citizens, should advocate this position with Caltrans. Left to their own devices Caltrans will allow the contractor to call the shots and we will live with two plus years of traffic misery. A little bit of planning and consideration for the community will go a long way in this matter.

  3. The amount of dirt that’s going to start coming out of that site is massive for the large underground parking garage. The fun with a thousand dump trucks is just beginning!
