Ravenswood could embark on districtwide naming process

Original post made on Aug 12, 2019

Community concern about losing East Palo Alto's recognition of Cesar Chavez with the phasing out of a middle school named after the civil rights activist could prompt the school district to re-evaluate all of its campus' names.

The school ratings of East Palo Alto Schools ranges between 2 and 5 ( out of 10) for Pre K through HS. I don't think this is because of a name. The priority should be to improve results for the students. Name the School # 1 through 100 then get back to finding out why scores are so low and how to bring them up immediately. Diversity and school pride will come when students excel.

Ditto on the above comment. There's only so much time in the day. Think about your priorities. If naming somehow rises to the top of the list, which would be surprising given all the serious work that needs to be done, consider naming a school after Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the farm workers union with Chavez, coined the term 'Si,si Puede" "Yes, we can" in English, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her incredible contributions to society, and was over-looked by the media for years due to chauvinism.

Well it's good to hear that big changes are being considered under this new administration,... those raises that they drafted for their selves seem to be well earned. *laugh*

nobody is even taking responsibility, nobody wants to step up. Good job EPA. Good job Ravenswood.
