Is Atherton Town Council too embarrassed to share minutes and video of its meeting?

Original post made by Peter Carpenter, Menlo Park: Park Forest, on Jan 11, 2020

At its 18 Dec meeting the Town Council discussed its so called Fiscal Review of the Fire District (a separate public agency serving over 90,000 residents of East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton and parts of San Mateo County over which the Town of Atherton has no jurisdiction) and excoriated a member of the public (me) who had criticized their waste of public funds for this "review".

Now almost 4 weeks later, including one full non-holiday work week the Town has refused to post the video of this meeting and did not even include the draft minutes in the public notice of their 15 Jan meeting at which time the hidden minutes are on the agenda for approval.

Is Atherton Town Council too embarrassed by its behavior to share minutes and video of its meeting?

Wow! I just watched the recently posted video.

EVERY Atherton resident should watch this video.

Your Town Council has been pursuing this issue for over FIVE years and you will see that they have accomplished nothing except to waste the tax payers' money and to create ill will.

Why - Because they do not understand Prop 13 and AB 8.
Because they have no authority or responsibility over property tax allocations.
Because nothing they can do will reduce the property taxes of Atheron residents by a single penny.
Because they do not represent the residents of Atherton with regard the functioning of any other government agency
that has its own elected body.
Because they constantly talk about fiscal equity without every acknowledging that given our progressive tax system
Atherton residents pay more for EVERY public service from national defense to local schools than those Atherton
residents receive in direct benefits from those entities.

In this video the Town Council impeaches itself.

Watch it and weep.
