Guest opinion: How to get on board with Menlo Park's climate action plan

A more basic question is whether one should get on board with this radical and expensive proposal at all.

Regarding the hand-wringing about converting Menlo Park to an 'all-electric' community to lower our contribution to global warming by phasing out the use of natural gas: How does our carbon 'footprint' compare to a coal-fired power plant?

China plans to add over 300GW of coal-fired power by 2030, which equates to hundreds of new coal-fired power plants being constructed in the next 9 years. Web Link

While I fully support a cleaner environment and preemptively agree that doing nothing is not an answer, I am equally convinced that China deeply appreciates Menlo Park's efforts to slow global warming and will send along an thank you note - right after they finish laughing at us.
