"The San Mateo County Community College District remains focused on providing our students and the community with a world-class education," says Ana Maria Pulido, the college district's director of public affairs.

However, the indictment of the Vice Chancellor of Facilities is a reflection of the problem under Chancellor Galatolo's leadership - a focus on beautiful buildings as opposed to building educational excellence. The District is far from "world-class." In fact, only 1 out of 5 students graduate in three years for a two year degree. That means that 80% DO NOT graduate on time. Would you accept that outcome from high schools with your public education tax dollars?

While an administrator at SMCCCD, I tried to raise these issues, but was exiled to the Gulag.

I worked at the District years ago, and it would appear that the corruption never ends. This isn't the first person charged with embezzlement, for starters. Then there is the KCSM scandal, the Marketing Manager scandal, now this.

The money doesn't seem to go to help staff or students, it goes right into the hands of the bigwigs who run the show. When I was there, that meant incompetent VPs and overworked/underpaid staff. Why are the citizens of San Mateo county putting up with this?

Because everything to do with county governance here is corrupt. But the sheeple here just keep reelecting them.
